Our motto ‘Gwreiddiau a Gorwelion’ (roots and horizons) summarises our aim of ensuring that all pupils are prepared for life from the time they nurture their academic and personal roots to the time they leave school and head for their own personal horizons. From the moment a child enters into their educational journey at Ysgol Bro Preseli, they will be nurtured, supported and encouraged every step of the way.
At Ysgol Bro Preseli we cater for pupils from 3+ years of age.
Pupils three years of age can attend part-time during the third term following their 3rd birthday. Pupils may attend full time the term following their fourth birthday.
Pupils are taught in a colourful, vibrant and engaging learning environment where each child is given every opportunity to flourish.
One of our main aims as a school is to make learning an exciting and pleasurable experience, mainly by ensuring we use teaching and learning methods which are interesting and actively involve our pupils.
Pupils are encouraged to be self-regulated, equipped, determined, and ready to say ‘Yes!’ to the great learning experiences on offer every day.
Pupils are encouraged to think about what they are learning, listen to others’ ideas and opinions, and always look for ways to improve and learn even more.
Ysgol Bro Preseli prides itself on the work we have achieved to develop the six areas of learning and experience of Curriculum for Wales. Based of the four purposes of the curriculum, every pupil will follow an educational journey that will excite, inspire and develop every pupil to be the best they can be.
The Expressive Arts Area of Learning and Experience covers five disciplines, namely:
Although each of these disciplines has a body of knowledge and a body of skills specific to that discipline, it is acknowledged that they collectively share the creative process. The practical nature of Expressive Arts gives learners a physical and emotional space to express their own identity, respect the needs of others, and recognize their own rights. Starting in reception and nursery, Ysgol Bro Preseli offers your child a range of creative and expressive experiences. The learning environment provides your child with countless opportunities to express himself through a variety of activities and tasks, be they standalone or imaginative tasks and activities.
The Health and Well-being Area of Learning and Experience provides a holistic structure for understanding health and well-being. It is about developing learners’ ability to face challenges and life chances.
Fundamental to this area are body health and development, mental health, and emotional and social well-being. It will support learners to understand and appreciate how the different elements of health and well-being are interrelated. It also recognises that health and wellbeing are important to enable successful learning.
Health and well-being play an integral part of the ethos of Ysgol Bro Preseli and at an early stage in the educational journey, your child will be given every opportunity to express feelings, empathise with others and develop physically and morally in a homely Welsh environment.
This area covers
These disciplines share many common themes, concepts and transferable skills, but also have their own distinct body of knowledge and skills. Humanities is central to learners becoming principled, informed citizens of Wales and the world.
Undoubtedly, the school engenders pride in pupils from their locality and beyond with the school taking every opportunity to introduce your child to what matters locally and globally. The school’s connection with Lesotho provides your child with a great opportunity to see what the world has to offer them in terms of geography, history, religion, values and ethics.
This area of Learning and Experience aims to enable learners to communicate effectively using Welsh, English and international languages. It aims to encourage learners to pass on what they have learned about how languages work in one language in order to learn and use other languages.
This multilingual approach is intended to spark learners’ curiosity and enthusiasm and provide them with a solid foundation to develop a lifelong interest in the languages of Wales and the world languages, thus making them ambitious, capable, and willing learners throughout their lives.
The moment your child begins their educational journey at Ysgol Bro Preseli he or she will be given every opportunity to develop their linguistic skills in both English and Welsh. As they develop and grow through the stages of progress, your child will have the opportunity to master international languages including French and Spanish, all opening doors and possibilities as your child aspires to new horizons.
The application of mathematics requires a strategic ability in the use of abstract ideas and modelling. Numeracy, the application of mathematics to real-world problem solving, plays a key role in our daily lives, and in the economic condition of the nation.
It is therefore essential that maths and numeracy experiences are as exciting, interesting and accessible as possible for learners, and that these experiences help learners to develop mathematical resilience.
During the early years, playing plays an important role in the development of mathematics and numeracy, enabling learners to solve problems, explore ideas, make connections and work with others.
The importance of science and technology in our modern world cannot be overstated.
Developments in these areas have always been responsible for leading change in our society.
These underpin innovation and affect the lives of all, economically, culturally and environmentally.
So the Science and Technology Area of Learning and Experience will become increasingly relevant in the opportunities that our youth will experience, and the choices they will make in life.
We have high aspirations for all young people and want them to be challenged and inspired to flourish in all that they do.
These values underpin all that we do across all ages within and beyond the school gates.
Our early years educational values will embody our vision that children are ready, respectful, safe and responsible for life.
We aim to offer every child the same opportunity to develop to the best of his or her ability, both as an individual and as a member of society.
We do so in a homely and supportive Welsh community whose mission is to nurture roots and broaden horizons.
Transition processes are of paramount importance as pupils transition to the next stages in their academic journey. Pupils are invited to Ysgol Bro Preseli for transition days, be this as they start at the age of three or four or as they transition into their secondary education.
Prospective year seven pupils will be invited to spend a week at Ysgol Bro Preseli during the second half of the summer term. They will also be invited to a fun day during year 5 where they will get a taste of what the secondary element of Ysgol Bro Preseli has to offer.
Of course, pupils who already attend the primary element of Ysgol Bro Preseli will be familiar with the campus, the facilities, the specialist teaching rooms and the staff thus making the transition from primary to secondary.
